My name is Shayla, but most call me Shay.
I am the founder / creator of HERD. I’m not boasting or looking for credit of any kind. This dream and goal of mine will never flourish without the community that stands behind me. So thank you in advance!

I am originally from Charles County, Maryland but moved to South Carolina for college. I graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2017 and 2018 with my B.A. and M.Ed. in Special Education! Although certified to teach K-12, my middle, high, and post-secondary friends have my deepest interest. After teaching for 2 years in the public school setting my heart was yearning for something more. After completing an internship at Island Dolphin Care in the Florida Keys and living out my childhood dream, I answered a call for another dreamy job at a local nonprofit that offered equine assisted psychotherapy and related services. Honestly, the rest is history and I have landed myself on this path I am on now. I truly never knew how much I could love animals and be blown away by their impact on our lives!
Aren’t we all just dreamers trying to achieve something in this world?! With that being said, because of the sweet beings I've worked with over the years, I’ve had continual shots at my dream(s), and it is my desire that through HERD, I can give them a shot at theirs!
